Hi looking to buy my 7yr old son a ktm50 for his first season of racing, can anyone please advise me on the different models as there seem to be quite a few, and whic would be most suitable he is quite tell for his age, many thanks......
hi milton,my lad has just moved up from the auto 50's ,ktm is the best option with out a doubt ,cobra are becoming more common but we never moved to them as the 50's dads all more or less run the same bikes (senior sx 50 ktm)and help each other out by comparing notes or sharing parts,so i would go down that route.if your lad is tall don't waste time on the junior sx ,one month in you'll be changing for the senior,my perferred choice is the later 2009,2010 (same design)models which are less hassle on the clutch maintenance as they use springs as opposed to washers on the 03-08 (same design)models but when set up right some riders/dads still prefer these 07,08,s.craigs motorcycles at dewsbury is one of the best places to go if you want to go new,if you want to go secondhand ask any 50 auto dad at any meeting and there always seems to be someone selling. kg
forgot to mention if your lad is really tall but don't fancy the 65 geared juniors yet,the ymsa is one of the only clubs that let you run a 65 auto box in the 50 auto class ,there was rumour of this being the last year but nothing was said at the agm meeting about it so i think that is still an option to but check with commitee first. kg
